There is a program from Pandora Software called Antivirus XP 2008, or something to that effect that has weaseled its way onto my system despite the presence of Norton Antivirus. I haven't installed it, though it keeps prompting me too, so it doesn't appear under 'Add or Remove programs'. It's only affecting my account on this computer. no one elses. And so far all I've noticed is that it has messed with my desktop settings. If I open any window and then close it, it wipes my desktop image and I'm left with a white screen. If I 'right click' on my desktop and go to properties, the 'background' and 'screensaver' tabs are missing. Please help!

run full scans with both, they are totally free

  4. Turn off System Restore- Click Start, Right Click My Computer, Click Properties, and turn off in the System Restore tab... Confirm it by clicking yes..

Download Avast Home Pro Edition here for free- http://avast.com/

    Re-Boot in Safe Mode...

Scan with Avast and move the infected files, viruses, to the Virus Chest..

Re-Boot in Normal Way, Turn ON System Restore, and in the Virus Chest of Avast... Delete the virus/infections...

And you're done... FYI: XP Antivirus 2008 comes with a virus and then prompts you to buy the software in order to delete it...
