  1. You need a credit card to reserve the car.  If you don't have one, you can try to ask if you can pay in cash but a) credit cards are needed for liability insurance when you drive b) when you pay by cash you'll have to pay significantly up front for the car.

If you don't wish to get a credit card in time for your trip, best bet - call the rental companies.  Try this link:

As for using your debit card - no won't work in Europe.  The only item that may work is if you can use it as a credit card.

Recommendation if you are trying to pay cash - try Dooley's or Irish Car Rental.  Avis, Budget, Thrifty Hertz, National and Eurocar will probably not based on experience.

    Good Luck

  2. Don't see why not .. Why do you need a card at all ? Surely your licence and cash should do.After all the car hire firm have to pay a percentage to the card company if you use one  They save this if you pay ash.

  3. not possible

  4. If you are choosing a big rental company then you will need a credit card. I have tried with a debit card before and the majority say no. If you dont have a credit card you can leave a cash refundable deposit in most places.

They ask for the credit card as insurance in most cases to make sure you bring the car back!

a smaller rental company may well take a debit card or a local renatl company.

Your best bet is to contact the rental company and check with them before you go.

I actually got a credit card just for this purpose.

Have a great trip in Ireland you will love it
