  1. If it is scratched, you can get an epoxy or polyester repair kit which will have instructions that should give you all the info you need. If it is "osmosis" - gel coat flaking of or lifting in patches, I'd advise getting the professionals on the job.

  2. first it would depend on what type of repair it needs. if it is just faded or oxidized it is really not that hard , just time consuming. if faded try dupont polishing compound, white for minor fading, red for severe fading. if you have , or know someone with a high speed polisher that would make the job easier however you can do it by hand. just be sure the surface is as clean as possible before you start and work on the finish in the shade.

  3. i have used a small fiberglass repair kit, but my damage was above water and very small. worked good and was a very paintable surface.

  4. Try doing a search on Google to see if you can do it yourself. A friend of mine has a 30foot Catalina, and he had to take his boat to a professional to be repaired. Good Luck!

  5. Depends on where the damage is and what type of damage.  Most chandlers stock gelcoat repair kits and small vials of pigment to colour match.  Follow the instructions on the box.

If the damage is close to or below the waterline, don't forget to apply gelcoat sealer (International or 3M) to prevent osmosis prior to applying your antifouling paint.
