How can i restore deleted files (pictures)?

Question

i have mistakenly deleted some of my pictures(digital camera) from my computer by mistake and it has also been deleted from the recycle bin ,now i want them back ,i don't know how can i restore them . please tell me if you know.my computer is windows XP and is there anything i can download to restore them back ,wouldn't it be harmful for my computer ,and i am worried if other files be deleted while using that software if i can download it

Try doing a system restore  and go back to when the files were not deleted  this may bring them back onto your computer.

dont think you can unless theres some bit of software that allows you to. i honestly dont know.
