I'm a sophmore in high school on a small team but a good state contending team. Right now i'm a hurdler and sprinter. I'm mad i didnt quallify for the state meet. So i want to be able to run a sub 2:00 800 so that i can run on next years 4x800 meter relay team. Which will go to state. I can garinty that already. there will be three guys next year who can already this year run under 2:08 splits and one other who can run under 2 flat. What can i do this offseason to get better so i can run in the relay? I want to run a sub 2:00. Please help.

  1. under 2:08 splits??? and there going to state?

    what state are you in?

  2. My high school track team has a guy that can run 1:58, a guy that can run 2 flat, three guys that can run 2:02, and I can run a 2:05.  You have to have a great coach who motivates you and knows you.  You always have to be very, very, very focused on you're time.  You have to eat, sleep, and breath that time.  You're diet has to be right, you're sleep must be constant and you're rest must be perfect.  You have to do all the right things in order to excel in the 800.  The 8 is, i my opinion, the hardest race you can run.  You have to want it with every cell in your body and then some.  The kid on my team that runs sub two gets nose bleeds constantly because he pushes himself so hard.  You have to want it.

  3. people could go faster than 2:08, so they shouldn't go to state

    jut practice everyday

  4. If you are a sprinter, you are in the perfect predicament already.  What you need to do is line up against somebody who is running these 2:08's and run with them for the first 600m.  After that, you will be dead.  Trust me, I did almost exactly what you are asking to do.  After 600m, everything in the world is screaming STOP NOW to a sprinter, but if you continually do this, you'll eventually find yourself with more sprinting power than the rest of the field with only 150m left.  2:00 is a BIG accomplishment, but 2:10 is reachable by anyone who can run under 25 in the 200

  5. i would mix some sprints and distance...for an 800, you need sprinting lets, and just distance practices wont cut it...but you need to run longer distances too....i know a guy who runs a 9:40 3200m run, but only a 2:10 800...which goes to show you its not just distance...sprint to gain the fast twitch muscle fibers and the longer runs to keep those legs and lungs working hard as long as they can
