I'm 14, 5'2 1/2", and almost 140 pounds! A pair of size 11 jeans I ordered from Hollister came today in the mail, and they don't even fit! It's not like i can send them back and get a bigger size because it's the biggest size they make! I'm really bad at dieting and excercising. I eat a lot of cookies and TV dinners and stuff. The most excersize i get in a week is an hour of swimming and maybe 2 miles of biking. It doesn't help that i won't even have ANY gym next year! (I had to cut it to be in spanish.) I know that i should be doing sit ups and jogging and stuff but that's just REALLY boring! So basically what i'm asking is, what are some fun and effective ways to excercise and what are some tasty healthy foods to eat? I would like to loose like 10 pounds by the time school starts, but thats in a little over 2 weeks so I doubt that will happen no matter what i do.

  1. It sounds like your current diet isn't working.  You know what food is bad for you, so replace that food with healthy choices.  Basically, if the food comes in a box, it's not healthy.  Try getting some veggies and cut them all up at the same time.  When you're looking for a snack, grab a handful of raw veggies and some fat free salad dressing to dip in.  Drink lots of water and avoid soda and juice.

  2. Unfortunately you live in a country with the highest obesity rate in the world.  If anything is going to motivate you then it should be the fact that you can no longer fit into your regular pair of jeans. I was so shocked at the amount of fast food outlets you guys have in the US and yet you continue to eat the way you do and not even think twice what it is doing to your health.

Healthy food is easy to prepare and great to eat. Once you get started on good healthy food you'll be disgusted by the things you used to eat in your past and love.

I'll give you an example of my diet -

Breakfast - chopped up fresh fruit - bananas, strawberries, raspberries, plums whatever is in season. To save you time make a big batch put it in the fridge and pour a little orange juice over it to prevent it from turning brown. I'll also eat yoghurt (not the chocolate type) or I'll make a fruit smoothie and have some toast (brown or multigrain bread)

Lunch - sandwiches or fat free soups. With the sandwiches use wholemeal or multigrain bread and top with ham and salads or chicken.

Dinner - go for fish or something light like vegetables.

Drink PLENTY of water and if you can even get in 30 mins of exercise a day. 30 mins a day is better than one hour a week.

I hope this helps. Get yourself a recipebook with the healthy recipes and follow that. Healthy food is not c**p food anymore like in the past. I can't stand fat-ness. It is so unhealthy.

  3. I'm fourteen too, and I understand what your going through. The best way to start losing weight is to be healthy. Try, instead of cookies and TV dinners, to go grocery shopping with your parents and pick out healthier options like fruit, yogurt and trail mix for snacks, baked food for dinner, etc. If you don't buy unhealthy food, it won't be there for you to eat.

You need to be firm with yourself, but don't go overboard. Eat healthy portions, not small ones. It really doesn't help you at all. Fun ways to get exercise are things like jumping on a trampoline, playing soccer/ basketball in your driveway/lawn, etc. Running can be more fun if you have music, if you have an IPod/ mp3 go for it. 10 pounds in two weeks probably isn't going to happen but if you work hard at it you could maybe lose that weight by the end of September.

Hope I help, remember that you are perfect the way you are and I am giving you these suggestions not because you need changing but so you know that there are healthy options other than starving/binging and purging.

  4. Hey!

Honestly, the only answer is the working out and you will get results....and cut out the fatty foods you usually eat. If you don't like to jog, then walk really fast for 30 min (fast as in you are late to class) and to some situps or crunches. In other words you need to sweat girl! You will see results but you also need to put in work. Good luck! Do it for those nice jeans you just bought! : _ )

  5. if you really want the change, talk to a doctor about it. they'll help you make a plan. start making little changes...try taking walks, or eating chicken salad, cooked dinners instead of frozen, veggies or baked chips instead of cookies. sweet potato fries instead of reg. potato fries. drink only water and green tea. just little stuff. and rock them curves, chica! be confident with your body and wear a smile!! :] best of luck to you.

  6. when you're working out turn some music on,that way you're a little bit pumped.

Try to get a friend or family member to go jogging with you so you're not bored and you can talk to someone.

go on www.seventeen.com and look at they're workouts they're not boring and some are actually fun, they also have dieting tips.

    Good Luck:)

  7. I had the same problem a few months ago. I took up Karate, and I asked my friends (sometimes my family *gasp*) to go on bike rides or walk around with me. I thought, well, I like shopping...so I walked around the mall for a while.

I LOVE fruits and veggies. A LOT. If you usually only eat a few types of veggies and fruits, try a new one, maybe once a week.

Also, try eating chicken instead of beef. Portion yourself.

If you like a certain food, look up new ways to cook it. Its fun, easy, hands-on, and effective.
