i want to like put my computer to sleep, but when i shut it, it closes everything. is there a setting i can change on my computer so it doesn't do this. i want to still stay signed on. and like leave my windows open. putting your computer to sleep saves energy, and it makes it so it doesn't get so hot.

  1. Well  i am not sure if putting it on standby will help but u can look around the settings and see, u can try putting it on standby then turning on to see if ur aim is still on if it is then great ^>^.About the over heating and stuff i have no idea cuz my pc is on like 21/7 or how ever u say that.. i would say give it a go and check out some other ppl's questions similer to urs and see the answers they got! well good luck!!

  2. put your laptop on standby and then close it, it should not shut off what you are currently doing.

  3. When you put your pc on standby, it's not supposed to get rid of you programs. I think maybe that's a whole different story and you might have to figure out something scmpletely different to fix that problem. But anyway, in your case, I don't think it's possible to keep you programs running and put it to sleep. But if it's an Xp you can change the settings for when you close the lid. Go to-

    Start

    Control Panel

    Performance and Maintenance

    Power Options

    Advanced

Then fool around with that stuff.

    Hope this helps!

  4. For Vista

Start > type in 'Power Options' and hit enter

Select the plan that you are using currently

On the left hand side of the window, select 'Choose what closing the lid does'.

Change the options in the pull-down menus to 'Do Nothing'

    For XP

Start > Control Panel > Power Options (In classic view) > Advance tab > When I close the lid of my portable computer > Select 'Do nothing'

By doing this none of your programs will close.
