Hi i just turned 16. im in 9th grade and i should be in 10 and soon 11th.My question basically is "How can i skip 10th grade easily?" im asking this cause im in home school right now and i wanna go to public school soon but of course im a grade behind. and i wanna be in a grade with every who was born in the same year as me. the only reason im a year behind was because in 8th grade my parents had to move their company and they needed me to help. the move took most of the school year. but since i went thru griggs university technically i have never been held back. I know that getting to the right grade is possible because my friend who was held back in 7th grade for several years while he was in home school got bumped to his proper grade when he went back to public school due to some program for helping kids get to their proper grades. My gpa is 4.0 and i have tested positive for gifted and talented. does any one know how i can skip 10th grade or know what program my friend used?

  1. Misspellings, punctuation, and grammatical errors aside,

it is up to your previous years' teachers

to recommend you for advancement and/or skipping a grade.

I'm taken aback by your statement,

"of course im [sic] a grade behind"

    merely because you are home-schooled

(how could you be both "home-schooled"

AND have gone "thru griggs university [sic]"?).

Since the current school year is well underway,

you are "stuck" in the 9th grade for now,

    but, given your grades,

you should certainly be in some "honors" classes,

which was your choice to take.

As for "test(ing) positive for gifted and talented",

many pass such tests, but are neither academically

nor emotionally prepared to skip an entire grade.

Also, I'm not aware of any student who purposely wants to

skip a grade, leaving all his/her friends behind.

Furthermore, never having been held back is not an issue,

since the vast majority of students continue their education

without having been left back a grade

    (on a personal note,

given the horrendous abuse of the English language

over the past few years by high schoolers,

as evidenced on this website, alone,

it would probably be a "good" thing to make more students

    repeat a year or two).

  2. Visit the school that you would like to attend and speak with the counselor. She/he can arrange the necessary testing to determine your level. If your GPA is at this level, more than likely, you will be able to score satisfactorily in the grade that you will like to study. Good luck. Speak very openly and act mature when you have this visit.

  3. Think about it for a second: is it likely that the program your friend used is the only program out there? No. Who would be the best person to ask about the program he used? His parents or him.

As for skipping grades, you'll have to talk to the high school about it first. You need to know what they will accept in terms of proving you've done the necessary work. They may also be able to provide you with details on how to "catch up", essentially.
