I have two children under 3 and worry about the impact my family has on the environment - disposable diapers, baby food jars, and just general garbage, aluminum cans, bottles, etc. We try to reduce & reuse whenever possible, but I really wish there was a recycling program where I live! There are bins for newspaper/phone book recycling at the local school but that is it. My neighborhood seems to be very behind in this regard. How can I get my city council to do something about it!

  1. Next town meeting bring it up.

  2. Hey, I live in Clinton too!  In trying to find recycling centers in the area, I came across your question!  I called city office a while ago and asked what it would take to get them to do curbside recycling.  Is that what you mean?  They said to come to the next city council meeting and ask them, but I couldn't make it to the last one.  We should go together to find out!  We probably just need a certain amount of signatures of people in the city who would actually use the recycling garbage cans.  Feel free to e-mail me, let's do it!  cheryl_newbold AT hotmail.com

  3. Contact your waste management program in your community.  Go to the local government, go to a town meeting, contact local media -newspapers, radio, and tv to do a 'green' story.  Talk to local schools and business about supporting your idea of recycling - have them start their own type of recycling - tell the media of their efforts, and have them contact the same govt people and media you did.  If one speaks up, they may listen, but no action . . . but if several speaks. . . then they may take note and action too!
