  1. Are you into sports or music or something? Make your first sentence a replay of a great moment . Something like:

There were three seconds left on the clock and our team was down by two points. It was up to me. I took the ball, shot it, and got the three point shot, winning the game!  My name is Mike and basketball is my life, but there are so many more interesting things about me.

  2. maybe start out telling about your family.

saying you were born into a "italian" (just an example, but if you are italian use it) family to a mother who is a "home maker" (example) and a father who is a "contractor" (example).

autobiography like that catch my attention right away.

  3. Hello my name is ______________________________

and then talk about your family, school, interests anything "major" happpen!

  4. This won't be your final draft, so don't expect perfection as soon as you begin.  Forget your inner critic.  Instead, write as if you were telling it to a friend.  If you fumble around at first, that's ok.  Just get started and be as sloppy and hemming and hawing as you feel you need to be in order to get the story on the pages.  After you got everything down, go back and rewrite.

Writing is mostly rewriting anyway.  You'll probably find the right beginning once you've begun the refining process.

If you have time, let the writing cool for a few days.  Put it away, then after that period of time has passed, read it with a fresh mind.  You'll see where you need to make it better.  Also this is important.  Read it aloud.  Also, sleep on it.  Many problems are solved by sleep.  You wake up with new ideas.

In your autobiography, you may want to concentrate on one particular facet of your life.  You might begin your story with that in mind.  So rather than telling your life story, this becomes more of a memoir, where you're not trying to tell every detail of your life.  You are telling something that will grab the reader.

    Hope this helps.  Good luck.
