  1. well don't run i have to start slow and work your way up walk for 30-60 Min's a day for a few weeks and then slowly start walk a bit faster and faster until you can start running with out the pain

  2. Couch to 5k

You should be able to run 3 miles by the end.

I used to get tired after three minutes but following that plan I was able to run an hour straight without stopping within two months.

  3. Looks like the coolrunning site is good.

Try to be patient and not over-do it.  My sister works on the 10% rule.  Go for a run and once the pain hits leave it at that.  Next time you run try to go 10% further or a longer time but no more.  You say you try to go for 2 mins - next time try 2 mins 12 seconds and continue like that.  Also try to remind yourself that you want to go for a run, not a sprint so set out just above walking pace.

Good Luck with it all.  I know my sister struggled to run a km 3 years ago and now she runs ultra-marathons up to 80 km (approx 50 mile).  She did this through patience, keeping a training diary, small increments in distance/time, training partners and diet.

  4. I just started running! :) I use the website coolrunnings.com

You have to have the right shoes for your feet and determination :)

I'm doing the couch to 5k (3 miles) in 9 weeks program

I'm on week 2-- run for 90 seconds, walk for for 2 minutes and alternate that for 20-30 minutes 3x a week.

It gradually gets your body used to running :)

    I LOVE IT!!!

It makes me feel like i can do this, I mean I can make it for  90 seconds right? RIGHT!

And awesome pump you up music is  a must.

I'm doing it to get s**y for my husbands return from deployment in 2 months :)

I love listening to Eli young band's "I call the tune" to put me in a "you're doing this to get FIT and get HOT" kind of mood lol

    good luck keep it up!!

  5. Well...as a beginner, running is not easy.  Moreover, the discipline to keep running is even harder to achieve.  I would start easy.  Find a nice, flat surface and only run a mile at a time.  When you get comfortable with one mile increase the distance.  Do this as long as you are being challenged

Addressing the side pains, well that's sometime just part of running.  To relieve yourself of them, put your arms above your head (while walking) and breathe deep breaths.

Finally, if you have an i-pod and some really upbeat energizing songs, make a "running" play-list and listen to it throughout your run.  If you choose the right songs, your body will not have the tendency to slowdown after only a few minutes.  The beat and pace of the song should keep your body moving.

Along with running, you should visit your local gym about three to four times a week and use the machines and free weights to help tone your body.  This will also improve your running.

what ever you do, don't give up.  All your hard work WILL payoff.

    Best of Luck,

    Luke
