Question:

How can i stay awake if i am taking amitriptilyne for depression? its only 10mg, but it makes me sleepy.?

as soon as it kicks in , in about two hours i am out.........any suggestions.......how long till i see it really working as well, i was just started on it.

  1. i was on the same as you, but mine was to help me sleep. i used to take it before i went to bed as one of the side effects is tiredness. i would suggest taking it at night so you will be able to sleep


  2. amitriptilyn is for sleep problems mainly, it is a very mild anitdepressant and you should be taking it at bed time.  Ask your doctor or call your pharmicist to be sure, but I've never heard of them prescribing it for anything other than bedtime use

  3. Ask your doctor if you can take it at night, about two hours before you have to go to bed. All antidepressents take a little while to work (days to weeks) but most of the side effects do disappear in time.
