I have been bitting my nails since i was 4 years old. (I'm 11 now.) I have tried EVERYTHING! The nail polish doesn't work, my mind forces me to remove the polish and keep biting. And the not-washing-your-hands trick just grosses me out and i can't not wash my hands. I can't keep my hands busy with an object cuz i don't stay in one place for long and when i get up, i always leave the object behind me and forget to get it. I have tries everything! My mom won't let me get fake nails...im hopeless! And the thing is, i bite them and i don't even notice! My nails are in awful shape and im a girl, so that makes it worse. I don't want long long nails, but i want nails...like the white tip kind. Any Ideas? I am open to any suggestions! Thanks so much!

  1. Omg creepy cuz I have been bitting since I was 4 too, and I am 11 too! I have the same exact problem as you. Litteraly the exact thing even the details! I can't stop either. So since I know what it feels like, just watch what your doing and if you start bitting, stop. If it is now uneven, wait till you get some nail clippers and clip with that for a clean cut!

  2. I can tell u one thing. I am from india and my mom applied castor oil

to my nails and whenever I tasted the bitter oil I used to stop bitting. Massaging castor oil for 10 minuted everyday gave me thick shiny nails and they looked reallly gud. I hope this helps. But try asking a doctor or a pschologist.

  3. they have special clear nail polish that you can put on  your nails. The nail polish tastes really bad if you try to bite your nails. i used ot have the same problem and then once your nails grow out you wont want to bite them cause they look so pretty :) also maybe telling good Friends that are around you that you have a problem biting your nails may help cause they'll stop you if you start to bite your nails

  4. i was in the same boat as you. NOTHING could make me stop. the only thing that made me stop was to wear fake nails for a month. it takes 30 days to break a habit. my mom wasn't too happy with the fake nail idea, but i told her it was for only a short time and it would be reaallyyy great in the long run. she finally let me and my nails are great now.

  5. Put nail polish remover on your fingernails everyday. That would probably help a lot.

  6. I am so with you on that one.

Try this nail polish like thing that you put on your nails that makes it taste bad. That should help.

And, instead of bringing something to distract you from biting your nails, just mess with your fingers.

Lace them through one another, play with a ring on your finger, crack your knuckles, mess with your pencil during school...

i do all of those things and have imensely cut back on biting my nails

  7. imagine wat u r putting into ur mouth u culd have tapeworm eggs under ur nails and wen they get swallowed they culd hatch and eat u away and u can DIE

  8. i used to be a nail biter-- but over the years i grew out of it. i think you should try to figure out why you do it-- do you bite your nails while you're stressed? in school? watching tv? it sounds like it has become a really bad habit-- luckily it's much more healthy than smoking :)

try wearing gloves when you're at home. that way when you start to put your hand into your mouth you'll realize it. maybe when you can become more aware of when you're biting you will be able to overcome it! good luck!

  9. try wearing gloves or tape on your nails

  10. well when someone bites their nails it means they're lacking an important nutrient. probably protein. so try eating foods with lots of protein. maybe that will help. but i really don't know, and if you want healthy nails try sally Hansen's nail hardener. it worked for my nails. now i just put it on every time i change my nail polish and my nails stopped breaking. amazing. well i hope this will help you with your nail biting problem. =]

  11. By "the nail polish" do you mean regular nail polish or the bad tasting stuff? They do make a nasty tasting oil that you put on your nails and when you put them in your mouth its so gross you just stop... it does take some will power to not just wash it off or bite away anyways. ( you can pick that up at any drug store ) I stopped picking at my nails by applying regular nail polish and i pick that off instead of picking my nails. Then i go hope and re apply for the next day. That has helped me out a lot. Good luck!

  12. OK theres sooo many:

Buy a really awesome ring and tell your so can NOT wear it until you stop.

    Put nail plosih on.

    Get ur nails reallly dirty.

    Put tape on ur nails.

    put glue on ur nails.

  13. put nail polish remover on your nails

    the taste is GROSS!

    thats what helped me stop

  14. they sell a polish-like thing that tastes TERRIBLE so that you don't bite.

  15. put something seriously discusting on your fingernails. liek icky fingernail polish. or or put fake fingernails on so u cant bite ur real ones.

&& every time you start to bite your nails think about where they have been...what you have touched. who else has touched it and where their hands may have been.

    best of luck to you

    hope i helped

  16. there is no bite clear nail polish that you can buy that is really bitter and is made to help your nails grow but prevent you from biting, here is a link, its pretty pricy but it really works. there are other kinds too,

    http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.a...

  17. theres nothing wrong with it.

    I bite mine.

    KEEP ON BITING AWAY!

  18. I had that problem when i was 8, and it took me 2 years to quit.

One day I saw my cousin biting her nails and I copied her.

It's pretty much a disgusting habit, especially when you're a little kid.

You HAVE to fight it, I know it's hard.

Think of alllllllllllllll those germs, and if you bite too much,

it might start bleeding and get totally infected!

    Gross, huh?

There's this special kind of clear nail polish at drug stores.

It makes them tastes REALLLLLL gross. hahh.

If that doesn't work, you just have to use will power

If you desperately want white tip nails, you have to let them grow!

  19. omg I have the same problem like you. I been biting since I was three (i'm 18) but still I can't stop no matter what. I chew it down to the nub until it bleeds and hurts. Well anyways my cousin gave me some suggestions and it kind of helped:

-If you find yourself chewing your nails, make yourself stop and do something different with your hands, like doodling a little picture, or drumming your fingers, or even cracking your knuckles. Just try it...even if it doesn't work.

-Try distract your mouth. Keep a stick of gum handy when you have one of those weak moments. Chewing gum can help you get distracted and keep you busy without thinking of your nails.

-If you want, put nail jewels on your nails...those are hard to bite, and the risk of one coming off in your mouth might scare you into quitting your habit.

-If you find your fingers moving toward your mouth all on their own, you might want to invest in a bottle of anti-bite liquids. Trust me, it does taste horriable!

-You might and might not want to do this but it's worth a try if you mind the smell... it involves rubbing raw garlic over the surface of your nails. After a week, nails should be stronger.

-Then when you do have clean nails, it will be such an improvement to your self-esteem.

That's all I have but you can look on google b/c there is all kinds of things you can do!! I really hope that helps you! : )

  20. I bite my nails, I'm 14 now and I started at 9. Nail biting is anxiety related and you need to understand when you're less likely to bite your nails. I bite my nails more at school, and sometimes more when I watch TV. When I'm sleeping or playing with my cat I don't at all.

When I had an extreme anxiety problem I would bite my nails, pull and chew at my hair (Eww it sounds gross aye) and other things. I still bite my nails now, and am becoming less concious of it. Like, I'm doing it right now.

You should focus on doing something else when you feel like biting your nails. That way, you will develop a new habit that is hopefully better than biting your nails.

  21. cut you're fingers off

  22. eww i have the same problem but i learned that if you didn't wash your hands before you did it, everything you touched that day is in your mouth like at school for instance people pick their nose and don't wash their hands then they touch stuff so just think about what is going into your mouth next time

  23. Let me tell you, Im 25 and just NOW stopped biting my nails...its a habit and VERY hard to break. I also tried EVERYTHING and it was soooo hard. I kept busy and CONSTANTLY had gum or candy in my mouth. I also bit my lip instead, that works for me. Good luck!
