  1. First of all, make sure you have somewhere for the kitten to go and hide when she arrives that is not the wardrobe.  The kitten will need to feel safe and that means that she is going to find somewhere to hide.

Secondly, buy draught excluders and put them around the base of the wardrobe.  If you don't have any, roll up old blankets or towels.  Make sure that it doesn't look like the kitten can get behind it and she'll probably not try.

Get a carboard box, cut a kitten sized hole in it and turn it upside down.  You can put a blanket or something similar in it and this can be the kitten's hiding place for it's first couple of days.  Make sure it's food and litter box are near by.

Your kitten should be kept in one room for the first week so it gets used to it and begins to think of it as a "safe" place.  Do not force your kitten to interact with you.  Get some fishing rod toys and dangle them in front of the her box so she can see them.  She'll want to play so will come out in her own time.

When she does come out to play, talk to her in a calm, gentle voice.  This will get her used to you.  Do not approach her (yes, it's hard not to!) but just keep talking to her.  This will help you gain her trust.  Cats Protection suggest reading out loud to your new cat - sounds bonkers but it works!

Soon she will realise that nothing bad will happen if she's playing.  You can then put your hand out and see if she will come close and sniff it.  This will help her get your scent.  Once she's comfortable with that, you can try stroking her.

Some kittens don't need all the tip toeing about that I've described above but if she is timid, the above will help and then she won't want to go behind the wardrobe cos she'll be happy to be around you!

  2. ok...well when i got  a new kitten a few months ago..she would crawl behind the entertainment system and sit just out of reach trying to chew on wires...so i had MAJOR probs with this...wut i did...was took the cat with me to petsmart or somewhere that allows the animal to go with u..and i found boundary sprays and i would spray a lil of each type of spray into the cap of the spray bottle and then let her sniff it (make sure shes on a leash or in a carrier or she might flip out n run away) judge her reaction to each scent..some jus make them squint their noses but dont keep them away ...others are like STAY AWAY NOW! lol....i found the 1 that really worked for my kitten is a spray called BOUNDARY cat repellent. If you have carpet in ur room..spray a bit on the carpet in any spot where the cat could possibly get behind the wardrobe from...if u dont have carpet what i did was take a piece of wood and staple cloth to it...then set that up behind the wardrobe and sprayed the cloth cuz the smell has to b able to really sink into something like cloth or carpet. this worked wonders for me! jus make sure u spray it in a well vented area...open a window when u do..and dont put the cat in the room RIGHT after u spray it....give it a min so the smell sinks in. gl

  3. You don't have many options but you can either- 1) Keep her out of the room that has that piece of furniture, which is probably not the most realistic thing to do OR 2) put something there to block her from going behind it- like put a towel underneath it, and in the back of it so there is no room for her to crawl back there.  It won't be great for your decor, but that is really the most you can do.

If you don't stop her and she does go back there, you can always coax her out with treats or something.

  4. lock her in ur room or somethiing so u she wont run under the sofa or bed.

  5. Please don't worry about what might happen.  Enjoy you pet, most times they like to be with you, so unless you are hiding behind your wardrobe, chances are slim that she will too.

  6. kittens gotta eat- if she does go behind shell come out soon enough. just get a friendly cat that wants to be by your side all the time.
