How can i stop my channels from explanding? (the channel won't fit the tv)?

this happens once in a while and i'm trying to watch "Attack of The Show" and i can't see the information bar at the bottom of the screen. (i have direc tv)

You are talking about the "aspect ratio" of the picture.  You can change that on both the direct TV box and the television set itself.  

You want to match the aspect of the source to the natural aspect of your TV.  That may mean that you will have a balck bar from time to time at the top and bottom or on each side of the picture.

Check your remote controls and the information from your direct tv and your TV set.
