How can i stop my dog from barking?

How can i stop my dog from barking without hurting her ? I cant afford a bark collar so have any ideas?

Well, for one nothing will work as good as a bark collar, they are able to give instant training at the moment that they bark, whether you are home or not. You can get a decent one for $30.

$30 is better than a couple hundred dollar fine for bugging your neighbors.

second.

Use a squirt bottle that can shoot long range. This will only be use when you are home though, and your dog will soon learn that you are the one squirting them, thus giving you a negative association.

third.

Most difficult for novice owners. Put the dog on a leash. And ask her to sit next to you. Wait till she is quiet.  Stimulate her, ring the door bell etc. When she barks make a sharp shhhpppt sound, and give a quick jerk on the collar. Make sure she continues to sit.  If she gets up, then repeat shhhhpppt and jerk, until she stops barking. Then place her in a sitting position.

I'm a big fan of positive reinforcement if she already sees you as pack leader.  I use sit as my fall-back command if she's doing something I don't like, I just say sit with some treats in my hand and she forgets all about whatever she was barking at.  When she sits she gets a treat of course.  Eventually she stopped barking and just starting coming and sitting in front of me.

When she start's barking, make a loud YAP sound to distract her. And do it everytime she barks. She should stop after a while.

my dog barks to and it's annoying for my neighbors so i received a animal control packet it says how to solve it.in there i used: squirt her with a water gun(once you squirt her one time when she sees the water gun she'll hide saying i understand) i know you don't want to but what i do is flick my dog on the nose. when she goes and hides i make it sure that she understands.dogs memory is short so i imitate her barking so she understands fully. they usually start barking because their protective or bored. for my dog it's both. protective:if a mailman passes by i wave to him showing her he's a friend.  bored: than you should buy her toys and rotate it.( as i said they have a short memory each rotation will be amusing to them) i have a lot of toys for my dog. i rotate it like this: purple bear, tennis ball, chew toy.The next day brown bear, tiny basket ball and another chew toy. this helped a lot. if you can't afford it you can use your old dolls or old shoes that'll be ok to,but make sure she know your shoes and her shoes. also one last thing make sure to walk your dog everyday.
