My dog is always scratching himself. I have tried flee collars, flee spot on treatments, flee shampoo and flee tablets. I have also tried dog tea tree shampoo and baby shampoo, but he's still scratching.

  1. You don't say what breed your dog is and i am sure it is just one of the many problems suggested by the other answerers, but if it's a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, you might want to check out a condition called Syringomyelia - pretty horrid but it is known as the 'neck scratchers disease'. I sincerely hope this isnt what it is, but it's important to get info about this condition out there. Estimates in the UK are that up to 1/3 of UK Cavaliers could have it. Not good

  2. maybe its allergies?? both my wiener dogs have allergies and i use calomine lotion and a & d oitment

  3. It is definitely not flees.  It might be fleas, though.

  4. You need to consult the vet.  It could be that your dog has an allergy or a skin condition.

  5. Could be allergic to something. Pop him to the vet where they can do allergy tests on him, although the most common is food allergies.

  6. what breed is this ? take him to the vets just in case it is serious

  7. to start with I'd stop washing him! he could be sensitive to any of the ingredients that you're rubbing into his skin.

You should pay a visit to the vet and get them to check him over

I also add cod liver oil to my dog's food, about 5ml a day keeps their skin supple and their coat shiny and healthy looking as well as being good for their joints.

  8. It maybe the heat, my dog scratches when hes too hot. More likely something to do with his diet though!?

  9. maybe its not fleas - take him to a vet, probably a skin condition or allergy.

  10. I have learnt by my mistakes. My present dog had dreadful problems because of the food which I gave her, I experimented with dog food, I tried raw diets, cooked diets and over the years I tried various dog foods. She did not like the raw diets and the dog food that I gave her resulted in diarrhoea. As an experienced dog owner I introduced any changes gradually. Nevertheless my dog still had problems. She was eight years old before I resolved her problem.

Eventually, because of my researches on the Internet I found that the experts have discovered that GRAIN in our dog’s diet causes many problems. I now know that grain creates acidity in the blood. This causes skin problems, digestive issues, allergies, sickness, diarrhoea, anal gland problems etc.,

if your dog has skin problems or any of the above problems PLEASE CHANGE THE DIET. Avoid Grain, rice, beef derivatives and dairy food

I now give my dog a dried food which uses beet for fibre and fish. It’s called Fish4Dogs and I buy it on the Internet. Look on the Internet and investigate yourself. Gluten free dog food is not enough to help our dogs, it MUST BE GRAIN FREE.

A rapid change of diet will upset your dog; any change of diet must be done gradually. Do please change to a grain free diet. I have had sixteen dogs throughout the years and they have had various problems. Perhaps if I had known about the dangers of GRAIN they would have had fewer problems. .

  11. Sounds like he's got some sort of allergy, possibly food related try slowly changing his food to dry and buy one that is for sensitive dogs.

  12. You may have dried the poor critter's skin out.

I did this to my poor dog - whom also happens to be my first dog.  The more she itched, the more I bathed and treated her.  A freind, who is a long-time dog owner- told me I was drying the poor thing out.

Rinse woofy with a moisturizing dog conditioner.  (I used oatmeal for dry skin)  Leave him alone.  Re apply your spot-on treatment in 5 days.  Then leave him alone; they really only need to be bathed every three weeks or so.  Unless they get in something disgusting.

And don't use people products on your dog anymore (baby shampoo?) they don't work the same, which can also cause itching.

  13. Totally agree with mango Toes what breed is it.Still a visit to the vet is an excellent idea.
