  1. Hi  I see you are a brand new YA  person!

    1. Separate them.

    2. Sell the Yearling.

Foals temper tantrums are hard to bear, but that is no excuse for letting them just stay together.  Get it over with, and keep in mind they are very short, and in the long run you will have your mare back to use again. Her size demands that she have a sturdy panel pen, or good stall,or be shipped to a buyer or a trusted friend with one.  She's emotionally attached and doubtful that she is actually getting much nutrition from milk.   A strong safe pen or stall for mare is important too,as she might also throw quite a fit,and injure herself. Keep them apart for at least 4 months as it was left so long.Do not just use a grazing muzzle it will not do a thing for their separation problem. Its tough love but  as you know you must intervene, and do so safely.

I do hope the gelding is not also in with these animals, their nutrition needs being so different. One run  one stall per horse , there is a good reason for this rule./Luck!

  2. Mabye you should start weaning the filly. Separate them but make sure the mare can see her foal and mabye she wouldn't be acting up as much.

  3. if the mare wont make the filly stop nursing then you need to seperate them.  try and put the filly in with others its own age. if thats not possible then put the filly in a pen where she can at least see the mother.  this is the worst part of raising foals as its heartbreaking to watch the mother and child go through this but if you let the filly nurse eventually she will drain the mare down to skin and bones and could eventually kill her.  good luck

  4. When I had my foal I put them in separate pens for a while...it a pain cuz we had to build the pen cuz one big pasture ... but it helped in the long run... worse case use a neighbor's pen...

  5. separate them, should have done that 6 months ago. but now all you can do is separate them and soon they will forget they were ever together. keep the gelding with who every gets the most upset. out of sight out of mind kind of thing

  6. WEAN HER
