  1. I'm confused? Who's name is the vehicle in? If the vehicle is titled in your name but insured under your fathers name then he will get absolutely nothing for the totalled vehicle because he does not have insurable interest in the vehicle. If the vehicle is titled in his name then why would the insurance company not pay for any damages? An insurance company cannot stop you from cancelling an insurance policy. The can charge you some fees for early termination. Just go into the insurance office and sign a cancellation form.

    Good Luck.

  4. But it isn't your car that you totaled. It was somebody else's car that you were slowly paying off so now you just finish paying for the car till it's totally yours.

I am not sure if this was clear but I hope it was.

This is why I always tell unexperienced drivers to buy cheap cars to practice with.

  5. You don't.  You continue to pay until the balance reaches zero.  And since your contract requires insurance while there is a balance, you pay that also.  That's what happens when you don't put your name on the policy the way you are supposed to.  You think you are saving money and getting over on insurance, but sometimes things like this happen.
