  1. If you believe and try really hard you can.  But when you do try to and your body or brain is telling you to smoke, that will only be the beginning of many but a the end it'll be worth it.

    I believe in you!

  2. one of my family members just quit smoking, and she took this medication to stop it. you can try the medicine she took (i think Chantix). There are other ways besides medicine: nicotine patches or gum.

    (information about the medicine)

    I hope this helps!

  3. I've read so many things about this. One was to smoke one after another until you got so sick that you never wanted another one. Accupuncture is supposed to work. You can also picture yourself lying in a coffin whenerver you want to smoke. This should turn you off of them. Good luck!

  4. This technique was offered by a radio psychologist that says it's foolproof if you're serious about quitting. Ask yourself how many cigarettes you smoke in a day. I'll say 20 for example. Divide that in half and make a schedule as to when you will smoke each one of those 10 cigarettes. Only carry 10 with you for the day. If the scheduled time comes and you are not able to smoke that cigarette, throw it away or give it away so you won't have it in your possession for temptation. Do this 10 a day for 2 weeks. Then cut that amount in half. Now you have 5 cigarettes to schedule. Make sure you only carry 5 with you for the day and get rid of any you cannot smoke at the scheduled time. Do that for 2 weeks. Be strict with yourself and smoke only during the scheduled time. This is very important. Then cut your 5 down to 3. Do your routine for 2 weeks. Now you are down to 2 or 1. If you need more time choose 2 a day for 2 weeks. Pick the most important times that you crave a smoke. When you get down to 1 a day you can keep it there, since 1 a day won't hurt you in the long term or you can quit completely after those 2 weeks. He says the success rate is 100% if you a serious about quitting. Good luck!

  5. abc 123 is correct, I know several people who have quit using Chantix.  They had tried a lot of other approaches before that failed.  Although it's still not easy, Chantix seems to suppress the nicotine receptors in the brain.  Best of all, insurance covered most of it so they only paid about $50.00 for the whole deal.  That's less money than two carton of smokes!  Good Luck my friend.

  6. you have just got to stop.you can not do it gradually. i trid doing it gradually and all i did was find excusses to do just one more and then just one more and first thing you know i was smoking just as much. you will be very irritable for a will(weeks?) but thats what it takes. i used large stick pretzels to put in my mouth as a help. maybe also patches, gum, but i found the pretzels a big help.

  7. Well I gave it up in 1987 I smoked for 20 yrs It took me 3 days to quit.On the 1st day I smoked 1 cig, on the 2nd day I smoked 1/2 and the 3rd the last 1/2 .It was'nt easy but everytime I wanted a smoke I would chew gum or stick a mint in my mouth.Besides I really wanted to quit.My daughter was 7 at the time. I knew I wanted to be around long eneugh to see her have kids.I never did get rid of that awful smokers cough.I only wish that I would of quit a lot sooner. Good luck to you...I think if you have the will you'll find the strenth to do it.

  8. massage your upper left ear.

  9. I had a dog one time that kept taking my uncle's pack of cigarettes off the table.  After a while he got tired of it and grab the dog and fed it the cigarettes. Needless to say it went to vomiting.  The dog never grab the cigarettes again.

  10. cold turkey

  11. It's not healthy to stop anything just like that, especially in your case where you've been doing it for 8 years. I suggest you try stopping gradually, and find other things to do instead of smoking. I'm not sure if this works, and it may sound kind've dumb, but every time you're about to smoke, in your mind, challenge yourself by saying "If I smoke this cigarette, I can't control myself"

  12. I'm currently on the path to stop smoking....here's what happened.....

So, I went to a party and had a few too many and had a horrible hangover the next day. That whole day, I had no desire to smoke. Nor the day after that. During the second day, I said to myself...."Self, you hate the smell of smoke, you hate having this addiction, you hate wasting the money on it, so why don't you just QUIT!!!" So I said okay, I'm going to quit.

However, on the third day, I was freaking out and had one smoke. Then the fourth day, had another smoke. Today is day #5 and I haven't had one at all!!!! (it's nearing midnight, so it's been all day)

When I really feel like having a smoke, I repeat in my head that I don't need a cig...I don't need a cig...And I drink a bottle of water in like one big gulp.

I think you have to change your mind about it. Try to change the way you think. Even though it is hard. Also, I think it's a gradual process.

    Good Luck To You!
