How can i strike up a convo with someone i don't know at school?

how should i start it?

i don't want to be like hi nice to meet you. blah blah blah

but i want to make a good first impression and stuff. what should i say and then how should i keep the convo going?

The first thing is to introduce yourself - Hi, my name is Matt.  I've seen you in ___ class and am interested in getting to know you - that is, if you're also interested in getting to know me?  It's, now, her turn to say something and you should be able to pick it up from here.  If she says she has a boyfriend - just say, Well ... he must be a nice guy to have you as his girlfriend.  The best way to make a good impression is to be polite.  See links - perhaps your parents will get these for you - it's $12 for both books including postage. I've given them as gifts to the teens I know.

when they say yes..follow up with:
