What I did was read read read. Just read a lot of picture books. and also maybe ask your parent to do some mathematics with you. Maybe you could write a story and share it with your family and look in childrens magazines to do some experiments. Hope this helps.

Hi Emily,

I'm a 2nd grade teacher.  The best thing you can do to be ready for 2nd grade is to read, read, read and practice your addition and subtraction facts.  It's also good to keep a journal and write down things you are doing over the summer.  You will be great :)  Make sure your mom or dad or whoever is with you during the day helps you when you are on the computer.  There can be strangers on the computer and things that 2nd graders should not see. The computer should only be used when adults are around so make sure you check with them.
