they're supposed to save you gas, but mine seems to be a gas hog. :/ i've heard different things from different people... in one hand i have "well if you wait to change gears until 3.5rpms you'll save on gas.." and in the other i hear, "well the lower the rpms, the less gas you'll use." so which is it? and are there any other ways to make my tank stretch??

gas prices, although declining, are still just outrageous. especially in a car that has yet to pass smog. :/

thanks in advance!

  1. the general rule is that your engine will start dramatically increasing its fuel consumption after 2000rpm. however, if you upshift at 1500rpm, that's a bit underpowered. so, shift at, or a little below, 2000rpm and cruise at your top gear at 2000rpm on the highway. it's kinda boring, but that's the fuel-efficient way.

  2. Rpm is the key. need to find the optimum rpm power do not over rev. or shift to soon. Shifting to soon causes to much load on the motor. and over rev is easy to figure out. Auto transmissions have improved so much that there is basically no big differences in the mileage. Cost down long hills. Down shift when slowing help save brakes. slow and gentle. not speed demons driving will help the most

  3. I have increased my gas milage by using a conversion kit i found at this site http://shorl.com/fabripepryfrori. It has help me ultimately save $650 on the cost of my gas each month. It is so  easy I don't understand why every one wouldn't use it.

  4. avoid sudden reving your engine and try to coast down hill when road is on slope ..uphill get out and push..that will sure save you money and gas

  5. If you're letting it rev higher before changing gears, then you're going to get worse mileage. The higher the motor is reving (RPM's), the more gas it's using.
