  1. Well, first of all, you collect a BUCKET of MONEY... then you buy some ice skates and start in.

  2. You can begin skating at any age!  Teen/adult beginner classes seem to be very common.

You may want to take a few lessons on rental skates to ensure that this is what you truly want to do.  When you feel that you have a solid devotion to it, then go get fitted for your own pair of skates.

Speak to your teacher about how serious you are about it, how much you wish to progress, competing, etc.

    Good luck and have fun!

(remember to not get discouraged, because it is not nearly as easy as it looks)

  3. I would suggest beginning with taking group lessons at your local rink and maybe getting your own pair of skates. A beginning pair of figure skates is going to cost around $100-$150. I would suggest going with a pair of Riedell Blue Ribbons. Good luck!

  4. First of all if you don't already know where there is a rink in your area go to this link and at the bottom is says find a skating club in your area, and type in your zip code

    http://www.usfsa.org/

Once you find the rink you are pretty much all set. They should already have a basic skills program in place and you can start by signing up for lessons. If you don't want to take group lessons check out who the coaches are that offer private lessons.

  5. first things first, take up lessons. if you already take lessons, consider private lessons. if you are planning on competeing, ask someone who is invoved in skating.

  6. I was just a little younger when I started, I don't do tricks like I used to but recreational skating is a blast. I suggest you find yourself an indoor ice rink, they usually offer better kept ice. Ask around that rink and you will most definitely find a trainer, however it gets costly to buy skates, pay admission, and a trainer. If money is no issue then cool, but if it is going and practicing on your own, and watching others will help. If you see someone who knows what they are doing, ask them for some tips most skaters are friendly enough to help. Anyway good luck and have fun!

  7. join a learn to skate program. there great for any age and almost ever rink has one!!! there great for socail and learning. Plus there just super fun!!!! :]

  8. there's no proper age to start, i know people who started in their 40's and 50's.

I'm 15 too and have been skating almost a year now.

i started out by just going with some friends a couple of times to see if i enjoyed it or if it was something i would like to learn more about. tho considering i couldn't really do much except cling to the barrier i decided it might be a good idea to start with group lessons he he :)

i found it a bit weird at first being the oldest in my class, but it didn't matter. there were also adult classes so i knew i wasn't the only one starting out from scratch.

my advice is to ask around your local rink about the different classes available. group lessons are good to start with (and you get to make heaps of friend while learning with people at the same level as you), then once you have a better understanding of the basics you could progress to private lessons. or if you want to try it out a little more in depth before signing up for lessons, perhaps try a holiday programme (the rink i go to has a week long one which caters to people doing speed, figure and hockey skating).

best of luck and have fun :)
