How can i talk my dad into this...?

i'm fourteen and in desperate need of a cell phone. before today, it was me and my one friend were the only ones without cell phones...like--in the world. now she got one and it's just me. i really feel stupid without one and i would LOVE to have one...it's not a financial issue...my dad just says it's 'morals' so...how can i talk him into letting me get one. i don't want to have to wait another year-year and a half!!

It really sucks being the only one without a cell phone- I didn't get one until I was 16 and a half, and the only reason I got one than is when I promised I would pay for everything. A cell phone is a good thing to have in case of emergencies, but it's also addicting. My friend sends at least three thousand text messages a month, so if your dad is worried about something like that happening, I can't say that I blame him. It's rather annoying trying to talk to someone when they're having a conversation with another person. Anyways, how to talk him into it. Personally, I would wait a bit, yeah, you might feel lame for not having one, but he IS your dad, he's not trying to ruin your life, I'm sure he thinks he's doing what's best for you. Anyways (again), I wouldn't bug him all the time, just make sure he knows the reason you want/need one isn't because all your friends have one. It would be good to have for emergencies, and it's a good way to learn responsibility, by not talking/texting 24/7.

I know it's probably not the advice that you wanted to hear, but it's what I have. And, also, you didn't clarify WHY you are in "desperate need of a cell phone"... if it's a good reason, mention that to your dad as well.
