  1. It depends on the age of the students and what you want them to know.  I always start my young students with Microsoft Word.  I do a simple whole group lesson using WordArt (the big blue slanted A on the tool bar) and have them type their name.  Then we learn the format part.

For them to do this independently, I put each step on paper and hang it above each computer (on the wall) or put it in a folder in simple terms.  1.Open MW and list the icon. Enter (and Icon for enter)

    2.  (Icon for WordArt) (Icon for enter)

    etc

  2. Well consider your students.. age and level of understanding. Check on their literacy in  as much as computer is concern. ..then you might as well start with the introduction on the parts, usage,  or the basic information cycle of the computer. then slowly teach their functions..basic operations. installed program and their usage. then start surfing the net and find out how they do on the basic computer operations and usage.

  3. I teach 2nd grade and we have classroom computers. The students learn how to do word processing and do research. So, yes you can teach computer in school.

  4. To change up teaching science and social studies, I would take my students to the computer lab and we would do research on a topic.  Last year I had students pick a planet, pick between WWI and WWII, we learned about The Gettysburg Address, as well as others.  It was a nice change of pace from the regular classroom textbook.
