  1. Let her bite she just doesn't trust u all the way just because a bird will eat out your hand doesn't mean they trust u. And ringneck go through a biting stage. And also when u go to pick them up move your hand quickly so they don't have the time to bite good luck.

  2. Just because she eats out of your hand, doesn't completely mean you have gained her trust. If you can touch her without her biting you. Than she has your trust and i don't have alot of time to explain how to gain her trust.

  3. Ok you have to understand that birds will reach out with their beaks to attempt to hang onto something they want to step up onto. so learn to over come the fear of your bird and allow it to reach out to step up as you wish. Another way is to allow your bird to come out of the cage before trying to get it to step up. Some birds do not like when you reach into their space of the safety of their cage but become very handleable outside their cage. I had to over the fear of my macaw and it wasn't easy. Birds of these sizes with beaks this scarey to us can hold us back from handling our birds at all.

  4. Ringnecks are smart birds and they are easy to train, BUT

You have to know the correct way to work with and train birds.

Birds should be taught to Step Up earlier than ten months, but you can still teach any bird wanted behavior's at any age if you know how to and if you take the time to reinforce good behavior's. Is safer and easier if the birds flight's are trimmed so they can't fly off in a panic too.

I use to but wild caught Amazons right out of quarantine from this side of the Mexico border. Domestic breed birds are easier for sure, but you may consider trying both ways I suggest here and which ever works best, continue.

Take the bird in cage to another, smaller room and close the door. This gives you the advantage, strange room filled with new, scary sights, making you the only trusted thing there.

Either take the bird out of the cage and place him on the floor, or let him climb out himself ~ he may fly, let him and wait until he settles down while talking to him the entire time.

Then begin. ( If he stays where you place him reward with praise, Good Boy! cheerfully  - and begin )

While observing his body language and talking camly to him,

smoothly, from low to higher, with your palm up and index finger extended, move quickly and at the same second, say Step Up as you go up and to the foot.

If the bird steps up say Good Boy or Bird. If he fluttes away, go and get him and try again and again, BUT if he bites you say a calm nooo. Never yell at a bird. Birds pick up on our emotions so You remain calm no matter what happens.

You are building trust in this bird for you, his friend and step up is the first of behavior's you need to teach him.

So make it a calm experience for the bird. If you like, use a treat reward for good behaviors.

Only work with the bird 15 minutes to start, then return him to his cage and room, if you moved him.

Go back and start all over again in acouple of hours, afew times a day until he steps up and stays on your hand.

Then you can try walking around the room with him, then saying Step Down as you place him on a table or cage or your knee.

If you are stressed or too busy to spend the time, then do this another time. You need to be calm and in control.

Once he learns these behavior's, then you can start teaching him to stay on the top of his cage or a bird stand or chair, as well as other thing's likes tricks.

Go to youTube and search ringnecks and watch the tricks your species can be taught.

Have fun and enjoy your bird starts with commands like step up and step down. Good for you.
