  1. relate everything bak to simpler math terms. It makes it way easier. Multiplying is something new and different, like learning a new language. While learning spanish, at first you need to have everything translated to english.


  2. There is a great program available used by homeschoolers called Math U See. It helps kids and it is fun to do. Great summer practice. Flash cards help too.

  3. Start by teaching her the times tables.  Just concentrate on 2s, 5s and 10s that's all she needs to learn at her age.  Check with her teacher to make sure this is correct for her class.  You can use flash cards or online games are great and fun, Johnnies Math Page is a favourite of my 10 year old daughter.  Go to jmathpage.com

  5. Practice daily, rote repetition, concentrating on the facts she doesn't know. Flash cards are a good tool for this.

  6. The dollar store near us has some great charts. Cover up the answers once she gets the hang of it.

  7. Tell her to count the numbers on her hands. Example

    5 X 5

    1 2 3 4 5 (stop contiune counting on the same hand)

    6 7 8 9 10

    11 12 13 14 15

    16 17 18 19 20

    21 22 23 24 25

I make my son do a multiplication table.  I number from 1-10 or 1-12 across the top and down the side.  Then I take a ruler and make lines between the numbers.  Then I have him fill in all the spaces with the answer to what the top number is multiplied by the number on the side.  I have him do this every day.  It helps.

  10. Show what multiplication is first by putting items in columns (2 groups of 3 is 3 items).  Lots of hands on will help with the concept & then just work with the flash cards.

  11. Skip counting helps with multiplying A LOT!

    We homeschool our kids and we have a skip counting CD that puts skip counting into song.

    What I mean by skip counting is for example -

    Skip counting by 2's - 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

    Skip counting by 5's -  5, 10, 15, 20

    Once kids learn skip counting they can look at 2x4 = 8. They'll see that they skip count by 2 four times.

    This will help a lot. My oldest who is now 12 listened to this CD for hours on end. Now when she seems a multiplying problem she'll sing a song sometimes to help her remember it.

  12. Practice, practice, practice. Its all about memorization. Flash cards, time tables, games, anything that works. Do it a little bit everyday.

  13. start with the families of multiplication:

    the ones the twos the fives( those are the easiest)

    and maybe get some dice and multiply them

    or start from 2 plus 2 plus 2 is 6 or you can go 2 times 3 is 6

    work books for multiplicaiton

    we use some of those magnetic numbers and multiply with them

    use objects and writing combination for teaching and it will last longer

  14. it takes lots of time for them to memorize the multiplication table........flash cards are good, but repetition it really the only way
