  1. how i trained my horse to go from a walk to a lope, is when i started he had bad cantering cue and didnt pick up a lope easy so i whent from a walk to a jog then lope and then started leting him pick up the canter right after i asked for a jog, so after a while of that i just asked him from a walk and at firt he would pick up a jog then a lope but now i can go from a walk to a lope by just asking him.

  2. Well with my horse , when your walking, you collect him ( put head down butt in..that kinda stuff) then kick with the out side leg. But he is a western pleasure horse, you might not need to put your horses head down; Good luck !!!

  3. Lots and lots of transitions.  You horse needs to be listening to you when you ask, and you need to be asking consistently and accurately.  Downward transitions, transitions between gaits, and within gaits, help you horse learn that she needs to be listening because you could ask at any time.  And you need to learn how to tell her clearly what you want, and you need to learn to ask once for the answer.

I do walk trot transitions, then halt walk, halt trot, trot canter, and then walk canter and finally walk canter.  It takes a lot of time, but it's fun.  Good luck!

  4. You have to have impulshion coming from their hindquarters to make it from the walk to canter. I get Jazz into a nice forward walk with some energy coming from behind. Then I ask him the same as I would in the trot. After I get it I hold my aids and make him go cause he tends to break in the first couple strides.

  5. i do what the 1st person does.. i ride western. so i collect my horse and cue him to lope with my outside leg. if he trots instead of lopes. i'll bring him back down to a walk and try it again.
