How can i teach my maltese dog the basic trick sit?

I just sent you a lot of sites that address how to teach your dog tricks.  It includes the sit & many more.

If you need more ideas just google 'tricks you can teach your dog'.  or 'Puppy training' or any other specific topic.  There will be thousands of sites for you to choose from.  Some of the sites give you specific information & some will have videos to show you how to teach it.

Have fun training.  Remember you have to have lots & lots & lots of patience when training your dog.  Don't ever get mad or angry cause your dog will pick up on your feelings & it can ruin a training day.

okay here is what u do  get some treats and put her in the sit position tell her sit and give her a piece of a treat then do it a bunch of times it she/he should be able to know how to sit in 6 or more times.i did that with my german shepherd/rottwielier and it worked nicely

Get your dog along side of you and gently push down on the area on the back just above the tail and say the command "sit" Do not force it by pushing hard..there is no need to, she will sit...after awhile she will sit on command without you having to push on her rear end. Always praise and reward when she sits. It may be advisable to start this exercise with her on a lead.

Put her up on a table.  When she is standing say SIT, firmly and gently, but firmly push down on her bum so she's sitting.  When she does, praise her and maybe give her a treat.  Keep doing this until she gets it.  Only do it for about 5 minutes at a time, a few times a day.  Puppies have very short attention spans and will not respond after a while.  Just be patient and consistent.  When she starts doing it on her own consistently, take away the treats, but praise.  And then again when she still does it, take away the praise.  If she doesn't sit at anytime, say NO, SIT and push.  Do not let her ignore you or not perform.

Stand over her with a treat.  Hold the treat over her head which gets her looking up.  Many dogs will sit down at the moment.  If she does, say "yes!" and give the treat.  If not, gently guide her into the position with your hand and say "Yes!" and give the treat.  She'll get the idea fast.

get a piece of whatever her favorite treat is and put it in your CLOSED hand.

allow her to sniff and l**k at your hand. you know then you have her attention.

hold your hand just above her head. she will follow your hand w/her head sniffing for that treat. move your hand back making her back up as you go. she will have to SIT eventually to sniff it. right before her butt hits the floor say "SIT". and as soon as she does, say "GOOD GIRL" and give her the treat.

repeat this a couple of times. she will figure out that if her butt is on the floor she gets the treat. once you see her automatically sitting before you move your hand back you can raise your hand higher up and keep giving the command..till eventually all you have to say is sit.

it might be easier to start in a kneeling position considering how small a maltese is, then once she figures it out you can stand up over her. i had to do that w/my mini doxie.
