I have a 1 year old Bichon Poodle. He loves to play and run all day long. He loves his rope and a little fish bath toy. I'll throw them and he runs after them, but he won't bring the toys back to me. How can I get him to bring them to me?

  1. Give him a treat once you get the toy, then progressively as he gets closer to actually bringing it back and dropping it at your feet.

  2. Say His name and Point Where You Want Him To Go It Always Works With Even My Friends Dogs

  3. This is just my personal advice (I have a yellow lab that is now 3 years old and she knows how to do all the basic tricks and such).

I would start by throwing the toy short distances and once your dog gets the toy, get down on your knees and call your dog by its name and tell it to come. If he comes back w/ the toy, praise your dog a ton then give him a treat. If he doesn't bring it back, walk him back to the toy and have him pick it up, walk him back to where you were and then praise him. Just make sure to praise your dog after he successfully brings the toy back. This is just my personal advice, because it seemed to work for my yellow lab. Just make sure to keep repeating this exercise until he has it perfect and remember to train them as early as possible, because the older they get, the most stubborn and harder to train they become. Good luck.

  4. My family has bred and raised dogs for six years and we specialize in getting them to retrieve to hand. Put your puppy on on a 10-20 foot leash. Throw a toy and hold on to the leash and let him go grab it. The second he picks it up start pulling the leash toward you saying "here" or "come" and then his name. Make sure you say good boy and you can also use a small treat as a reward. Keep repeating this action a few times a day and he should learn it pretty quickly.
