  1. Sure, but you'll probably lose more than win.  If you really want to learn a physical skill you need an instructor.

If there is someone that is causing you to believe you need to learn how to defend yourself, it's time to get your parents, teachers, principal, or police involved.

  2. im sorry, if we all could just "teach ourselves" how to fight...what would be the purpose of martial arts schools? take a martial art that interests you because if you use them correctly and train hard, then any will do in aiding you in self defense. aikido, hapkido, brazilian jiu jitsu, japanese jujutsu, judo, muay thai, kickboxing, many types of kung fu.

there are so many to choose from!

I have nothing against karate or taekwondo, but the thing is that most school are only teaching for the money. not saying ALL are like that, its just very hard nowadays to find a legit school with high quality teaching. worry about whats in your area, and from there..one of the most important things in finding a martial arts school is the instructor. whatever you do, stay out of trouble! as much as martial arts is for defending yourself, one hopes that you'll never have to use it.

good luck! joining a good martial arts school will not only teach you a way to defend yourself, you will get fit AND have a lot of fun!

    :D

  3. Look in the yellow pages under Martial Arts.  Find a club or dojo that offers self-defense classes for women.

  4. brazilian jiu jitsu videos can help you

  5. It's hard to learn to fight without an instructor or a teacher. Your best bet would be to pay for lessons, something like Taikwon-Do, Judo or Karate. If you really don't want to pay for lessons you could buy/rent books on fighting/self defence. There are hundreds of books on each type. You could also watch instructional videos online, there are heaps of them too.

  6. have you tried looking for books that could give u self defence advise the only other option is get a punching bag and look for someone to fight you should start with someone smaller and weaker to get your feet wet then work your way up just remember not to be scare of getting your *** beat because it happens to the best every once and awhile

  7. Do you want to learn to defend yourself, or to fight? There's a difference, in that one involves a choice

If Big Martha at school tells you to meet her at the parking lot at lunchtime, and you go out there, it's a fight

If you're minding your own business and Big Martha jumps you out of nowhere, it's self defense

"fighting" especially in high school, implies some sort of "rules" as it's usually more about egos, and trying to teach someone a lesson

The best way to handle a fight is to just avoid them(ie.don't meet Big Martha in the parking lot)

As a young female, though, you may face a certain amount of real safety risk, and it would be smart of you to learn about practical self defense.  In addition to physical techniques, you would learn about the psychological and social barriers which may be obstacles if you ever found yourself being attacked, as well as ways to minimize the the chance that you will ever need to defend yourself

  8. Watch these videos!

  9. I didn't know I could fight until I got extremely pissed off one day and beat the cr*p out of someone...we all have it in us =D

  10. first i got i question to ask you : wut do u know about jeans form japan hand made with brand in seam of the pants? now ask urself do u know how to fight

  11. If you don't know how to fight... how are you going to teach yourself? There's a tough one. How can I teach myself rocket science?  Sorry, but you're going to have to learn it from someone who knows it. Take a martial arts class. Even though you'll probably just forget it once a real confrontation comes up and try and scratch, claw, grab hair, and poke eyes because you were dumb enough to think you could teach yourself in the first place.

  12. You can never really teach yourself how to fight.

I mean you could pick up a few techniques from books or watching videos, but you wont actually be able to know if you're doing it correctly or not. You need an instructor or sensei to be there and watch you.

So if you're busy with school, and need to learn a practical way to defend yourself, take up krav maga. Its an Israeli martial art that incorporates all the most effective techniques from various martial arts to create a martial art for street and self defence. Its simple, efficient, and to the point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that you don't have that much interest in martial arts, but rather want to know to defend yourself in situations. So IMO, if you dont have much time in your hands to really study one particular martial art, take up Krav Maga.

    Hope this helps buddy!
