How can i tell how deep a water vein is?

i know where their is a water vein on my property but how can i tell how deep i have to go to get water

i do not know of a scientific way. however my uncle used to witch for water with a green willow branch he would find one shaped like a Y when he found water . he would invert his grip on the stick and the number of times it would bounce let him know how deep it was .he was very good at it and made a lot of money doing that if nothing else it will give your neighbours some thing to talk about.
