  1. Simple.

A rooster has a variety of colorful feathers on it's long tail.

Chickens have short, one colored tails.

A rooster makes a very loud "cokadoodledoo"

    Chickens "Bawk"

    Chickens lay eggs

Roosters have a long red piece of skin hanging under their beak.

  2. does it lay eggs?

  3. There are two kinds of "chickens."

    The "roosters" are the males.

And the "hens" are the females.

The hens lay the eggs. <}:-})

  4. Well a hen or chicken as your calling it, will lay eggs,  and wont have the look of the rooster, or make the morning calls. Just get some images or roosters and hens on line,, its very easy to tell then apart.

  5. Generally when a chick gets to be all feathered out. . .6-8wks,you should be able to tell if you have a cockeriel (male) or a pullet(female).

Look at their combs (red or pink flesh above their beak). . those that are shorter in length and shorter in height is a pullet whereas a cockeriel will have a slightly longer comb that stands taller. . can start to droop as they get older.

Cockeriels will also start to grow red or pink flesh at the base of their beak and that is called waddles.

At about 8 weeks, you will see where the spur nub is on their legs. . . above the ankle area on their legs. . . towards the back inside middle of the legs.   These are the spurs that will grow that they use for fighting and you need to watch out if you have a cockeriel because if they feel threatened they can and do attack humans and can rip you to ribbons with those claws and spurs. . . . .From the start, let your rooster know that you are boss and you aren't as likely to have problems with him jumping you.    DO NOT tolerate a rooster that will chase you or jump you.

Keep in mind that some breeds of cockeriels won't grow combs/waddles as I have described but the spurs will give them alway.

Not all males have long tail feathers and not all males have the bright colors as in some breeds.

Go to Cackle Hatcheries.com. . . . they have excellent pictures of all breeds of chickens/ducks/game birds and you can see what grown males/females look like and even depict the breed of bird you have.
