  1. Roarman is absolutely correct: ask to see the dude's DD-214.  If for ANY reason he won't show it, dump him for a lying son of a b  itch!  sorry, but we veterans detest wanna-bees...

  2. If he was discharged from the Military, he will have something called a DD214. Everyone gets this form when getting out, whether it is an honorable discharge or otherwise. If he can't show you this, I would call BS on his story. Also, there is a place on this form that lists all awards, badges, etc. he was awarded while in the service. If he went to Iraq, he will have something listed there regarding that b/c everyone gets something from over there.

  3. Ask him to see his DD 214 which is the form miltary members get when they are discharged.  There is not some sort of public database they you can check on people.

  4. Ask for his DD-214.  He is required to show it to any employer he goes to when he applies for a job.  If he doesn't know what that is then either he never been in the military or he went AWOL and never had a chance of seeing one.  There isn't really a way to see if he went to Iraq or not unless you can get a copy of his Enlisted or Officer's Records Brief.  It has a section in the upper-left corner that states any time he spent outside of the US, whether it was a deployment to Iraq or a tour in Korea.  Other soldiers can tell if a person has really deployed simply by asking them certain questions about Iraq but your average civilian might be fooled by a wannabe.
