How can i tell if my new cell phone is locked or unlocked.

HI guys a bought a new cell phone online from ebay and the guy said it was a unlocked phone is there any way i could know for sure or do i have to take his word for it.

ok borrow a friends sim card from a differant company than your phone is with and if it turns on if and makes a call its unlocked if not then it is locked k:) that is the only way saddly i guess take his word and if it isnt unlocked report his butt :)
