How can i tell if my oscar fish wants to mate??

my oscar fish is a boy i asume. he is pushing the plants around and seems to leave his food. i don't if he wants to mate?

How big is the Oscar?  

Oscars are sexually mature around 18 months old or 8 - 10 inches, so if you Oscar meets that criteria, then it may be sexually mature.  It is difficult to tell if it is a male or female without seeing it spawn or venting it, so it is difficult to say whether you have a male or female.  Both will show signs such as you are describing such as re decorating, refusing food, cleaning a spot on the bottom of the tank, and so on.  If you have multiple Oscars, you may see them lip locking and showing aggressive behavior toward each other, which is perfectly normal.
