How can i tell if my tropical fish are pregnant? and how long does it take before they give birth?

A few of my fish have HUGE bellies. And it has been this way for awhile. When do they give birth? How long does it take? I don't need a population explosion!! lol

if they are live bearers then they deliver between 4-6 weeks

egg layers spawn but most of the eggs gets eaten

What species of fish are they? If it is a live bearer like guppies platies or mollies, you are in for a population explosion! If it is an egg laying species, you are less likely to have them spawn cuz they need to be triggered to spawn.

what fish are they, female fish will swell when there eggs have formed but unless a male fish is there, then nothing will happen, unless they are live-bearers
