How can i tell if this sea glass i found is a ruby?

it could be red sea glass...it was found in madison oh(close to cleveland)in lake erie...you can see through it if you get it wet and hold it up to light.its round and not really smooth...its the size of a dime

  1. See if you can scratch it with a piece of quartz crystal. Quartz has a hardness of 7 on the 10 point scale, with diamond being 10, silicon carbide and boron nitride being 9.5 and ruby and saphire being 9.0. Ordinary glass varies but is usually between 5 and 6. If you can scratch it with something that is 7 then it is ordinary glass for sure.
