my grandmother, last year, purchased her first computer and discovered the wonderful world of email to help stay current with the family. since she lives across the country my parents thought it would be good for her to learn how to send emails and send her pictures of the grandchildren. although i think its great that i can say i have "a cyber granny" i have also discovered the downsides. i gave her my email address to stay in touch with her. she now forwards junk mail she gets thinking i will also enjoy these jokes. more recently she has been sending me political propaganda saying barack obama is a terrorist and not fit to be president. while i am excited, as this is my first year to vote (yeah me!), i am trying to do my duty as an american and listen to all sides before clearly making a decision of whom i will vote for. I also think she might be biased because of mr obama's particular race, as i understand she is from a different era where such blatant racism was accepted and encouraged. I guess I just feel uncomfortable when she sends me stuff like this, how do I tell her not to send me such things without hurting her feelings or making her hate me. I love my grandma and don't want to hurt her feelings, what do i do???? :(

  1. Come on.  It's not that big of a deal.  Just ignore the political and joke e-mails.  You say you love her, so suck it up and hit - delete!

Trust me, you're not going to change her views.  And I don't think she'll be changing yours.

  2. Just delete everything

  3. just block her email. she will not know and you can just nod your head if she asks you about them. if it gets real bad you could change your email...OR make a new email account and tell her this address.

  4. Its a not a big issues ,really. You could always spam them and delete them ,or not open it at all.

If you really must tell her, say that you wld apreciate if she jst send all the important thing and not fwds mail,as you dint check it everyday and youre inbox full and those other email cant go in.

but , i guess it wld hurt her , old ppl are sensitive.and she's lonely and doing things to keep her occupied

  5. If you can tell the junk mail is just that from the subject line, delete without reading it. You aren't going to change your grandmother and I find that older people discovering, as you said, the "wonderful world of email," think all the forwards going around the Net are actually valuable information. I get more forwards from my age 50+ relatives than from all my other email correspondants combined.

Ignoring things you don't want is what the delete button was designed for. Read the ones you think are family news and whatnot and delete the rest. If she did sneak a personal note into an "Obama is Osama" diatribe and asks you about it you can breezily say, "no offense, but I usually delete forwards because i get so many, but I always love getting your notes and family news."

  6. Add her to the junk mail folder in your filter settings. Sounds harsh, but better than telling her to stop sending them. You shouldnt tell her to stop sending them. As meaningless as it would seem to you, she most likely has very little going on in her life. Or you could get a new email address for IM etc. and not check your current one that often.

  7. Don't worry about it.  Its her toy, and like a lot of my friends, what comes spilling into it and out of it is all done by magic or something anyway!

Can you honestly say that you have never forwarded one of those dumb 'read this story all the way through atnd make a wish letters' or Something like it - just some daft 'viral' off of youTube or something?

  8. Just send her an email asking her to stop sending you political propaganda, you can say you're not interested in politics or you can simply delete them when you get them.  Just because you get email doesn't mean you HAVE to read them.  When you open them and see they are junk that you don't want to read click the delete button and poof they are gone.

  9. well it is not a serious issue because everyone has their own opinion about the president

although none of them are good president everyone finds something to hate on the other one!
