  1. Ski size has to do with your height and how fast you want to go. Longer skis usually mean you can go faster.

  2. Ask the employee at the store where you're buying or renting your skis from!  They're trained to fit you correctly based on your height, weight and skill level.

  3. These days the skis are not much longer than your height.

  4. You can take my advice on this one since I've been an expert skier for over 35 yrs. One major thing to consider is your height. Too long of ski can be dangerous unless your an expert skier since the long ski will increase your speed tremendously. A short ski is much easier to learn on if your a beginner since it's slower & you can learn turns much easier with a shorter ski. Most good ski instructors use the GLM {gradual length method} when teaching a beginner how to ski. What this means is that your first lessons are with shorter skis & as you improve, your ski length is increased until you find the best length. I would generally recommend a little shorter ski unless you're a racer. One rule of thumb is that your ski should be no taller than your own height or it's too long. Don't forget to make sure your bindings are adjusted to your ability, i.e., beginner, intermediate or expert. The better your ski ability the tighter your bindings should be. This is because a beginner will fall more often & you want your bindings to release everytime you fall so you don't hurt yourself. An expert skier rarely fall & since they ski faster, rougher & turn harder, including bumbs & moguls; their skis could come off simply because they ski so; therefore, they keep their bindings tight. I hope this helps.

  5. A rule of thumb to go by is between your chin and forehead, forehead if your more advanced, chin if your less advanced, but ask someone at a local ski shop and they can help you with the sizing more specifically to a model you choose...

  6. The longer the ski the faster you go. The shorter the ski the more control you have.

  7. Measure your height to your eyes and this is the length of ski you need. Simple as that.

    Hope this helps.
