Gerbils come into heat often and at a young age.

The easiest way to tell if your female gerbil is in heat is to watch a nearby male.  He will act more interested in her than usual, may become slightly more aggressive towards you and/or other male gerbils.

Both males & females may have increased urge to build nests and store food.

She may become more irritable but will accept a male if he tries to mount her.
