  1. my son got gassy when he needed a switch. that happens cause the baby is taking in air when they suck.....that's what the dr told me. when I switched his nipple the gas problem went away.

  2. He will get frustrated because he isn't getting the formula/breast milk fast enough. I noticed when my daughter needed to move up a size she would get gassier, since she was sucking harder (probably air) and not getting enough. And you may also notice your baby will be sucking harder.

  3. They'll usually get fussy if they have to suck too hard.

You can always try a faster nipple, it won't hurt.

  4. It should take more than 10 minutes to drink their bottle and less than 30 so they don't get tired by the whole process.

Be guided by the packaging and your own baby. Mine has one for 3 months plus from 7 weeks.

  5. They usually suck faster or even stop sucking cause they are tired of trying to get something out faster.

  6. When my son started to get fussy while eating. I tried a faster nipple and he is doing much better on it. Not fussy and has giggles and grins when eating.

  7. my (awesome) pediatrician judged it by how long it took ruby to finish the bottle. this is pretty subjective, but you'll know. try a faster flow. if, after 3 feedings, s/he is still having formula/milk run out of his/her mouth, then she isn't ready. if after 3 or so feedings, s/he adjusts, it was time. no harm done: you'll need the faster flow nipples eventually. night as well try them now. oh, also, ruby would pull off the bottle if the flow was too fast.

  8. Usually a stage 1 (slow flow) nipple is for 0-3 months; stage 2 (medium flow) is 3-6 months; stage 3 (fast flow) is 9 + months.

Otherwise you can also tell if baby starts collapsing the nipple; that means he's sucking harder to get out the milk & you should switch nipples.
