he is fine with going for a wee but its the other, he says he doesnt need the toilet but 10 seconds later he's had an accident, and says he didnt know he needed to do it, i can just about cope with it at home but he is guaranteed to have 2 accidents at school everyday, the teachers are good about it but i just feel there should be more i could do to help him,

i have tried reward charts and extra computer time and special trips out but am getting no where

any advice would be appreciated

  1. well, im surprised hes not trained it is probably that he is so busy and doesnt want to miss anything that he goes in his pants.  I would pay attention to when he has the accidents and his body language bacause he probably tries to hold it in and when you ask him if he has to go make him sit on the toilet with a book even if he tells you he doesnt have to go because like i said maybe hes just a little busy body and doesnt want to take the time.

  2. I have a son that went through the same . He might be constipated. If this has been going on for a long time he is all bound up and can not feel when the f***s around a hard old stool is released. Take him to the Dr and let him know that your son is having problems. They should order an x-ray that should let you know fairly quickly. They have a lot of safe laxatives now for children (don't use over the counter).

I would not get angry or have him clean his own stool he is not doing it out of spite. Most likely his colon is stretched out and like I said before he can't feel the need to go.

  3. I understand your frustration! I know it may sound odd, but could you schedule bathroom time? You would kinda have to track the timing of the last few days then encourage him to go to the bathroom about 1/2 hour before those times. If hes sitting in there 15 minutes so be it. Have you talked to him about how he feels about going in the toilet? is there something scary about sitting on the toilet for him? Michele

  4. Many boys take longer to p**p on the potty. Yours isn't out of the age range for p**p problems yet. Still, you should talk to the pediatrician about it. I'm not too sure about the things in the toilets at school. It does seem counter-productive for your situation. Perhaps a lesson on toilets and how they really work and maybe one on p**p, what it is and where it goes. Some kids do better with a straight-forward approach.

  5. what worries me is he is doing this in school, other children can be so cruel.  they will start making fun of him and calling him names.  I think you have to put him on the toilet every half hour even if he says he don't need to,  he will get tired of sitting on the pot,  let him know he is not being punished for this, but he needs to do this so he will be able to tell when he has to use the toilet.  explain to him that other children will not want to be around him and they will make fun of him if he keeps doing this.

  6. By 5 a child is generally potty trained which leads me to believe that there is an underlying problem.  Take him to his general doctor for advice.

Until then, if he thinks there are monsters in the toilet, have him place "one" Kleenex on top of the water( if you know what I mean) to keep any monsters from coming up and getting him.  Maybe he will think this is a barrier between him and the opening at the bottom of the bowl that will  disallow any monster from coming up to get him.

OR tell him monsters DONT LIKE THE COLOR blue and use blue toilet bowl cleaner tablets in your tank so that the toilet water is always blue!!! This will keep the monsters away AND keep your toilet clean at the same time!  Tell him you just read that somewhere, take him to the store to buy the tablets with you.

  7. take him to the pediatrician to rule out a medical cause.

  8. when he is at home let him walk around naked..they generally wont p**p on themselves. if he does , make him clean it up..it gets very old for them.
