  1. Ancestry.com is good, but its expensive (unless you can do a lot on the 14 day free trial!). My parents got a subscription for me though because I kept bothering then (for, like, a year).

familysearch.org has some stuff too--it depends what your looking for. They (as well as ancestry.com) have the US census.

genforum.com is a place to connect with other people.  Its basically a website of genealogy message boards.

Cyndis List is a website that has tons and tons of links. It kind of confuses me, but theres some good stuff on there.

    Hope this helps!

  2. When tracing your roots you always start with yourself and work backwards. For example lets say that you are Joseph Johnson Jr,you start with that then go to Joseph Johnson Sr then to your grandparents and their parents and so forth.

I do agree with the 1st answer that you got as well as far as genforum is concerned. Go to genforum.com and at the top righthand side you will see a box that says jump to forum enter your last name and it will take you to that surnames message board. Once there click on post a new message and ask away and hopefully someone will be able to supply some information to you. I have put a link to the surname message board below. Good Luck

  3. The Vital Records section of Family Search

    http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/f...

has a huge collection of Mexican records. Some go back to the 1500's. You'll have to get back before 1900 or so somehow on your own, and you may not find all of your lines, but - some of the birth records there list not only the parents, but the grandparents.

I used the most common name I could think of - Juan Garcia - to show you an example:

    Juan <GARCIA RODRIGUEZ>

    --------------------------------------...

Christening: 10 Jan 1892  Place: San Pedro Martir Quiechapa, Oaxaca, Mexico

    --------------------------------------...

    Parents:

      Father: Pedro Maria GARCIA

      Mother: Justa Rufina RODRIGUEZ

    --------------------------------------...

    Grandparents:

      Father's Father: Pedro Pablo GARCIA

      Father's Mother: Ana Maria MONJARAS

      Mother's Father: Mateo RODRIGUEZ

      Mother's Mother: Simona Maria

    --------------------------------------...

      Source Information:

      Batch Number: C619393

      Source Dates: 1853 - 1896

      Film or Fiche Number: 1163408

Collection Details: San Pedro Martir; Catolica

    ======================

Here is one a little older, and no grandparents:

    Juan <DE MEDINA GARCIA>

Christening: 27 Oct 1580  Place: Cuauhtemoc, Distrito Federal, Mexico

      Father: Juan DE MEDINA

      Mother: Marina GARCIA
