  1. Practice bumping, setting, and serving the ball against a wall.

Squats, leg lifts, running stairs, and jumping. (this helps with jumping to block and spike)

    Running and jogging (regular fitness)

Lifting weights (helps gain muscle in your arms and hands to help spike and serve and block.

  2. you can do alot of things to help you train. try playing with people that have played before. otherwise you can just take a ball and pass, set, or spike against a wall. have fun!

  3. Not being experienced in playing volleyball in a real league can affect you when trying out for a school's team. But to show the coaches how good you can be, is by practicing EVERY day. It's the only way I got good myself. First of all, make sure you have a volleyball at home. Serve it against the wall with parent's permission every day. Atleast 50 times. It seems like a lot but it's only one simple serve. Also, try bumping and setting against the wall as well. Do this maybe 50 times too. This may seem like a corny answer, but it works. trust me. Some teams at school can be hard to get into. Just remember... Practice as much as possible if you really want to play this sport. Because volleyball takes skill. Not everyone can play it. You have to know the basics of it, the rules of it, and more. Some more advice is to find someone who plays volleyball as well. They can teach you the game, help what positions to play in too. The best person who can help is someone with experience. Hope I helped :) and I hope you love the sport, i know I do :)

  4. Hi Courtney,

Ok, I have coached Volleyball at the High School level for many years now and can offer some sound advice.

Find a Volleyball camp that you can attend. Talk to mom-dad and get some support on this is  is my cost a few bucks but is Well Worth it.

Most camps are run by credible coaching and are orgainized well. Look online and Que in Volleyball camps and see what you can find Locally.

Volleyball is a demanding intricate sport requiring Focus.

Remember, volleyball is simple, let the ball hit their side of the floor and not yours; that is the whole game.

Volleyball has Evolved from a "volley sport" (lazy tactics) to a "fast attack", bump, set, hit sport over the past 25 years. It is now a science almost in "Passing" and "Hitting".

The Pass is everything in vollelyball; without the pass you have nothing as the pass starts the set and the set starts the hitting attack.

Absent a camp, learn to Pass the ball as the first step in learning the game.

Again, Look Online for volleyball passing and there are video's detailing all the "how to's". Stanford University has a video out by Coach Dunnion. Very good and around $30 a pop.

Good luck and remember you can have all the coaching you want but You Need to Focus and play it hard or stay off the court.

This may sound rude to you, but as a coach I will tell you to stay home if you can't bring your intensity to the court.

    What is intensity?

Intensity is you keeping the ball in play, KEEP THE BALL OFF YOUR COURT AT ALL COST. BRUISE A RIB, CUT A FINGER BUT KEEP THAT BALL OFF YOUR COURT FLOOR.

That is the game and it is fun. Anything doing is worth doing right...
