How can i train my pet koi carp to let me pet him?

Question

ive seen people petting koi and thery suck there fingers my koi is about 4 inchs long and how fast will he grow

and is there anyway i can convert my above ground pool into a koi pond

I had a friend who had koi carp and he would whistle and they'd come. Don't ask me how this came about but that is the truth.

you take a gun point it at it's head then say the following : get over here and let me pet you or guess what happens. works every time.

koi will become tame and feed out of your hand but this takes a lot of time. i spent about three hours a day with mine, just putting my hand in the water with food in. eventually one will come and take food and the rest usually follow. koi can grow very quick dependind on conditions.

a large well oxygenated pond and a high protien diet can turn a fry into a 1 kilo fish within a year or so.

i currently have twenty koi weighing over 7 kilos each.

its amazing wen they know you and all come up for food. they stick their heads right out of the water.

although i still have a couple that will come close but will never actually take food from my hand. depends how confident the individual fish is.

try prawns to hand feed this nornally starts a feedind frenzy and the soon dont worry about taking from hand.

some of mine now prefere it to feeding off the surface.

koi grow fast given the right about of space.

i've seen one as big as 3-5 feet he was the coolest dude ever.

yep, i would suggest draining the water, filling it back up, draining it, filling it back up.

this may waste lots of water, but you want to make sure to get the chlorine out (unless it's new, then all the washing isn't necessary)

It's not good to touch fish as you will wipe off their protective slime coat, the slime coat protects them from diseases.

just put your hand in there and don't move it. he wil probably nibble on your finger. it doesn't hurt they don't have teeth. then give him some food. then gradually move your other hand and pet him. give him some of the slime coating stuff after that because you probably wiped off some of it.

Just put your in hand there when you feed him, stroke his sides.. gain his trust. Just be sure you use some sort of slime coating after petting him, as you will wipe off the protective slime coating with your hands.
