  1. practice till your legs and arms fall off!!!! lol jk I am a 6'1 middle hitter/blocker for m high school and club although i am 15!!! the transition will be a difficult change but you just need to work on jumping, and when your playing watch the setter on the other team to figure out where she will set the ball. and as of blocking it takes timing. usually go up to block once the hitter goes to swing, depending on how high and fast and tall you are!! and when you go to hit middle dont hit straight hit at an angle to avoid getting blocked yourself!!! and when you block on your opponets left side remember to take off their right arm this will help you block better when they hit at an angle because most lef side hitters don't hit line!!! GooD LucK!!! :)))) feel free to contact me for more tips on how to become better at hitting and blocking in middle postition.

  2. Practice fast blocking footwork. You don't even need a net. Just practice running side to side and blocking the outsides.

Make sure your footwork is right before you start to practice it a lot. Ask someone who knows to watch you and tell you.

  3. ive been a middle blocker since my freshman year and im a junior. Its not as hard as it seems just stop thinking about it so much.Eventually all the steps will come naturally if you keep working at it. You will be a little shaky but you will get it.Trust me i know how you feel i felt the same way my freshman year. The main thing is to be fast.Thats all that matters

  4. you have to be aggressive, no matter what!

  5. The biggest component of the middle blocker position is footwork and transition. Pay close attention to the opposing setters hands, figure out where the ball is going, and get to the outside or weekside blocker in order to create a wall. You should work on your timing with those individual...literally staying step, cross-over, step, down, then up in your head. Depending on how tall you are, you need to be able to get to either side of the net in three or four big steps. Correct footwork will improve your speed and coordinating your blocking with your teammate will improve your blocking percentage.

Also, consuly with your coach about how to position your hands when blocking. If your hands are not positioned correctly, then you may not get any touches or your blocks may go out of bounds. Your thumbs should be strait up, fingers fanned out, almost like you are making a bird with your hands.

  6. This is tough. I am a middle blocker at my high school and we actually got 4th in state!!! it was awesome. i didnt start playing middle until soph yr, and it takes time, im going to be honest. the biggest thing for me was footwork. also, WATCH THE SETTER. that's the easiest way to know where they're going. a lot of setters have little tendencies that a lot of ppl dont pick up on. u prolly know all of this already. also, ask ur weak side and strong side blockers to communicate w/ u. it seems awkward to be like, hey talk to me on that, but i promise it will improve ur blocking. just hearing and processing ur teammate yell that out will help u assess the situation faster. good luck!! vball for life!
