I have been hitting middle for 2 years and i kinda wanna try to hit outside. When i hit outside my timing seems to be off, is there any drills i can do so i will have better timing?

  1. Good answers above here.  I would just like to add that maybe you can work with your setter or setters to set you lower.  Even to the point of the outside shoot set.  It would help your timing and would help you get single blocks outside.

  2. Is that you are used to playing middle and the timing between middle and outside is different.  In Middle, you have to go as quickly as the setter sets it because you don't have that much time but in outside, you first see where the ball is and then you go(but the transition in seeing and going is quick, not staring at the ball for hours...).  You just have to work on your timing and have a great approach.  If you do well in middle then you'll excel at outside too.  Good Luck!

  3. i play outside and playing middle is alot different. the best way is to start at the ten foot line then u have to wait until the volleyball gets to the highest point then do ur aproach. it might be hard but keep at it. hope this helps!

  4. The same situation happened to me.

I would say just keep hitting, experiment with the timing. The more you get use to it, the timing will come.

You probably know this, but you want to start your approach at the highest point of the set and start out farther and angled.

    I love playing outside now!

    Good luck!
