Question:

How can i use fabric with card stock to make invites?

i am looking for unique ideas on how to incorporate fabric with card stock for my wedding invitation. is there anything special on how the fabric should be pretreated? can you sew fabric and paper together or is it better to glue?? any ideas would be helpful and pics would be great too!! thank you so much!

  1. many scrapbookers sew little fabric pieces in card stock, you can just patch little squares or something, use THICK thread for the best look

  2. A friend of mine used to make Xmas ornaments where she bonded fabric onto heavy paper which she then layered and sewed onto cotton batting, and they were really cool. She used Steam-A-Seam 2 to bond the fabric, which she had pre-washed first.

    It's also quite possible to sew fabric to paper - quilters do it all the time when foundation paper piecing.

    If you want clean fabric edges, the bonding is probably better. If you want it frayed, either sewing or bonding would work - just leave at least 1/4" fabric all around. Definitely make some test pieces before you decide, tho. Sorry, no pictures!
